recognition and enjoyment of the good qualities of someone or something.
The quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.
Every day is a blank slate to be crafted into beautiful art. When we open our eyes and roll out of bed, what do we do first? Do we rub our eyes and think, what’s for breakfast? Do we complain about having to wake up early? What is the very first thing we do? Most of us are already creating a checklist of all the tasks that we must accomplish for the day to be one step closer to our dreams. Throughout all that, what are we forgetting? Gratitude. Practicing gratitude helps you to recognize how blessed you are. It will help you to live a happier life. A life filled with peace, kindness and marvelous sleep!
Practice Gratitude Throughout Your Entire Day
You see, the majority of us are so focused on our dreams that we sleepwalk through our days. We spend every moment living in the future, thinking about the future, envisioning what it will be. Life is unpredictable, but we spend our every move working hard to make it as predictable as possible. Don’t get me wrong, that’s quite alright! We all want a sense of security. However, are we practicing gratitude?
Every morning that you wake up, it’s a brand new day to reach your goal. Be grateful. Take time to realize that you made it to another day. You could have died, but you’re here. Be appreciative. Before you rush into your tasks and all the worries to come, take a moment. Relax for a minute. When you make breakfast, be appreciative of the fact that you even found food to feast. A lot of persons don’t have food the way you might. Be thankful for the simple things. I’m not saying that, throughout the day, you should stop for minutes at a time to make sure you feel moved within your heart. In that case, you would never get half the things done. I’m saying, learn to appreciate the simple day to day things in your life. Don’t be so focused on your future and the big picture that you miss the daily treasures. Don’t sleepwalk through your days.
Be grateful for the persons around you.
You might have heard the phrase you don’t know what you got until it’s gone. This phrase applies to people and the small things that we tend to take for granted. Good people are hard to find in this world. Please don’t take them for granted. Some of us are lucky enough to have persons around us that motivate us each day. Persons who believe in us even if no one else does. Those who take care of everything we neglect while chasing our dreams. So that when we take our heads out of the clouds, our present life doesn’t fall apart. Not to mention those family members who might not understand what we are doing, but try their best to support us through any way they know-how. Do you take the time to appreciate those persons?
Often it’s when these people kick the bucket that we recognize their impact in our lives. That is the time that we think about all the things we wanted to say but didn’t. How we wish they knew how much we appreciate them. Why wait till a person is gone? Why not take a few minutes from chasing your dreams to let them feel appreciated? Spend time with them. Find something that works for them. People like to feel appreciated. You might be thinking, but they never ask for anything. Those that take the time to do so much for us usually don’t ask for anything in return. It’s up to you to realize that they deserve it. Appreciate the gems that surround you.
Be grateful for the situations that pushed you to greatness.
A lot of things don’t work out the way you wish. However, have you ever taken the time to realize that that’s why you are on this path to greatness? Sure, a lot of bad things happen in life that may have hindered us greatly. Certain things that we’ll probably never be able to get over. However, what about those bad things that weren’t so bad? The chemistry that you couldn’t seem to pass. That big move out of the city away from all your friends. That dream job that we couldn’t see ourselves without, that rejected us! All those things that at the time seemed like the worse thing to be happening. Many bad situations are the exact reason why you’re on your path to greatness. Don’t carry them in your heart. Realize their role in your greatness, appreciate them, and move on.
Be Grateful for every milestone.
Do you know what we often do? We proclaim what our goal is then we spend every day working towards it. The more we work, the less exciting our dreams seem. The more we work, the more draining the process appears! Then each day, our goals seem further and further away. Sure the path to success can be a tiring one but what makes it even more stressful is when you don’t practice gratitude. What does gratitude have to do with this?! Think about it.
Goals take steps. With every task that we complete, we are one step closer to that goal. However, when all we can see is the big picture, we become unhappy. That’s because it seems that we are working every day and getting nowhere. Stop! Take a step back and smell the roses. Take time to recognize how far you have come. How much you have accomplished. Then be grateful for where you are. Show appreciation for all that you have achieved. Not only will this make the process less tiring, but it will keep you motivated. It will make the process a more joyful one. Take the time to appreciate every step of your journey.
Practice gratitude on your way to your dreams. Practicing gratitude makes you happier. You’ll begin to realize how much you have to be thankful for in your life. Sometimes it might not seem very much at all, but learn to appreciate the small while working on the big. Don’t spend your life only focused on what’s next. In doing so, you teach yourself never to appreciate anything. Therefore, when you achieve your goals, it seems trivial compared to the next big thing you’re working on at that time. Learn to appreciate every stage of your life. Being appreciative doesn’t mean that you should be comfortable. It doesn’t mean my situation isn’t as bad as someone else’s, so I should be satisfied and quit having goals. Surely doesn’t mean you shouldn’t seek out a dream. It just means that you’re aware of your current blessings while you seek out your dreams. Take the time to appreciate even the small things in your life. It will make you happier, kinder, more positive and leave you feeling fulfilled.
